 Abstract
An in situ weathering profile overlying chlorite schists southern Cameroon was chosen to quantify chemical intensity and study the behaviour of rare earth elements (REE). Mafic index alteration values combined with ternary diagrams system show that hydrolysis feldspars is proportional mafic minerals (losses although more than ferromagnesian minerals. The studied materials are localised domain except for nodular which slightly lateritised. change environment expressed by low Ca/Mg ratio. Potassium leached soil order mobility is: enrichments linked presence illite. This fact counter-intuitive, because mobile supergene Adsorption or co-precipitation LREE onto oxides mainly may control profile. Weak area, probably amounts fractionation leaching. has been rarely reported lateritic environment. It appears that, part remobilization controlled weathered materials. mobilization thus adsorption minerals, REE-bearing such as rhabdophane found profile.

Rare Earth Elements Profile
Definitions and characteristics The rare earth elements (REE) (sometimes referred to as the rare earth metals) are a group of 17 chemically similar metallic elements, including the 15 lanthanides, scandium and yttrium. The lanthanides are elements spanning atomic numbers 57 (lanthanum, La) to 71 (lutetium, Lu) (Table 1). The lanthanides all occur in nature, although promethium, the rarest, only...
متن کاملConcentration and recycling of rare earth elements (REEs) from iron mine waste using a combination of physical separation methods
This study aims to investigate and optimize the effects of the main parameters including the particle size, gravity and magnetic separation combination, high gradient magnetic separation, magnetic field intensity, shaking table slope, washing water flow, and electrostatic separation upon the rare earth element (REE) recoveries from iron mine waste. The electron microprobe showed that high amoun...
متن کاملMechanical activation of phosphate concentrates to enhance dissolution efficiency of rare earth elements from a kinetic viewpoint
The Esfordi phosphate concentrate mainly contains fluorapatite, monazite, and xenotime as rare earth element (REE) minerals, accounting for 1.5% of rare earth metals. The monazite and xenotime minerals are refractory and their decomposition is only possible at high temperatures. Thus mechanical activation was used in the present work for this purpose. After 90 minutes of mechanical activation, ...
متن کاملComment on “Rare earth elements in stream waters from the Rokko granite area, Japan: Effect of weathering degree of watershed rocks” by Nakajima
Nakajima and Terakado (2003) measured rare earth elements in stream waters from eleven locations in the Rokko granite area. The present paper examines their data in the light of a model in which each sample arises from mixing two sources, followed by concentration or dilution. The concentrations of rare earth elements in the specimens will then follow particular equations, and a straight line w...
متن کاملRare earth elements and permanent magnets (invited)
Rare earth (RE) magnets have become virtually indispensible in a wide variety of industries such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, medical, and military. RE elements are essential ingredients in these high performance magnets based on intermetallic compounds RECo5, RE2TM17 (TM: transition metal), and RE2TM14B. Rare earth magnets are known for their superior magnetic properties—high inducti...
